Chapter 1, Part 1 A piece of paper was dropped on Mark's desk snapping him out of his thoughts. “Another robbery.” A female voice said as Mark looked up to see a red headed girl around Mark's age -19 to 20- her hair was in a braid down her back. She wore the same uniform as Mark, all black suit with a star patch that said in gold letters “The Agency of Magic.” She was obviously tired like she had not slept in weeks. “What was it this time and any leads?” Mark asked tired of the theft wave already. “The Dimond of vigil.” The women responded, “and yes. We have some leads this time. First: we have video prof of the thief attacking guards… but they all claim they do not remember the entire night. But here is the good news” she said. “We think we know when and where the thief will strike next.” She said pausing for affect. “Well, were?” Mark asked visibly lighting up. “We think they will go for…” she paused for more affect “here!” she said “What!” Mark said as his face paled a little, “here? Why?” Mark asked after thinking it over. “Because-” the sound of a vase falling and hitting the floor interrupted her. “Rachel. corner attack?” Mark asked, and Rachel nodded and jumped at a window, it glowed purple then opened as Mark ran to the door and slowly opened it to reduce the sound as he cast a tracking spell. Once he was in the hall the tracking spell found its target and a white glowing outline of a figure appeared and ran in its direction. He ran out the building and saw Rachel get kicked back by the thief, she landed on her feet and mark noticed she had taken the hood off and he noticed who the thief was… “No…” he whispered to himself frozen from shock. “It can’t be…” Rachel murmured louder the Mark and she feel back a little. “Magic?” Mark asked still frozen in place. “I thought you were dead…” he added still not over the shock of seeing her after 9 years. “… who’s magic?” the thief asked, looking at him strangely. Like she should recognize him, but she did not. Mark stumbled back. “You… you don’t remember…” he asked, stammering back and she shook her head. The sound of the police cars appeared out of no were and magics is widened with fear… and Mark couldn’t stop the wave of sadness that washed over him… he recognized that fear… she had them the first time she had been close to fireworks… and the first time they went camping and she heard wolves near there campsite… and then a white portal appeared behind her bringing mark back to reality as she stepped in still watching mark closely… and then… the portal closed, and she was gone… just like that, a thief had escaped and it was his fault… all, his, fault… “What were you thinking!” a women much higher ranking then him half yelled half asked him. “I-” Mark started to say but she cut him off. “You know… I do not want to hear it! You let the most wanted thief escape!” she yelled before taking a breath “ugh… dismissed…” she murmured, and Mark stood up and left.
